It is found only 20 miles northeast of Charlotte, and it is the recipient of the All-America City Award and other important distinctions.

The climate features cool winters and hot, humid summers. During the winter months, average high temperatures reach the mid-40s, while low temperatures fall below freezing. In fact, it is common for winter temperatures to reach into the teens overnight, so the right gas or electric furnace is a necessity to stay warm. Fortunately, this season is relatively short and leads to a pleasant spring.
During the summers, daytime temperatures often reach the upper-90s, with some days experiencing thermostat readings in triple digits. While daytime temperatures are hot, overnight conditions do cool off a bit. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are also common, so residents will rely on their central air conditioning systems to stay comfortable regardless of the conditions outdoors.
